Roger Vivier, Paris has generously sponsored the 12th Annual W&S Lecture and Luncheon, which will be held on Thursday, May 14th; the event has raised $1 million dollars of support for Rockefeller’s women scientists. The luncheon is attended by 500 women from New York’s business and philanthropic communities and will feature renowned scientists Cori Bargmann and Leslie Vosshall in a talk about the future of neuroscience. Eric Kandel, a Professor at Columbia University and a 2000 Nobel laureate in medicine will join them in a panel discussion, and the event will be hosted and moderated by RU President and 2001 Nobel laureate Sir Paul Nurse.
Since the initiative’s founding, Women & Science has raised $13 million to establish the Rebecca Lancefield Professorship for a senior woman scientist, provided support for 105 postdoctoral and graduate fellows, as well as for faculty recruitment, the Child and Family Center, career development, predoctoral education, and seed funds for research in neuroscience and other fields.
Founded by John D. Rockefeller in 1901, The Rockefeller University was this nation’s first biomedical research university. Over the years, Rockefeller has been the site of many historic breakthroughs, including the landmark discovery that genes are made of DNA.
