VILLENCY PURE DESIGN KICKS OFF BICYCLE FOR A DAY
New York, New York (September 15, 2008). Some of New Yorks most prominent philanthropists, power brokers, financiers, entrepreneurs, athletes, fashionistas, designers, art patrons and celebrities gathered last night at the Maurice Villency flagship, to kick off the upcoming Bicycle for a Day (BFAD) event which will take place on September 20th at South Street Seaport, and to preview VILLENCY PURE DESIGN, a unique line of eco-conscious furniture (www.villency.com) made from recycled material and manufactured with the highest worker welfare standards.
Guests such as Frederick Anderson, Kelly Choi, Anne Marie Cushing, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, Holly Dunlap, Douglas Hannant, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Lara Meiland, Tatiana and Campion Platt, Nick Raynes, Maggie Rizer, Sharon Seagrave, Geoffrey Scott Carroll, Susan Shin, Blaine Trump, Simon van Kempen and Alex McCord, Kimberly Villency and more, enjoyed savory organic hors doeuvres from Pure Food and Wine and sipped VeeV (the world%u2019s first acai spirit) cocktails and organic wines by Organic Vintages %u2013a healthier alternative to the usual party fare. Meanwhile, others followed their green treasure map and embarked on the Green Auction hunt, which featured items that promote healthier living such as a Segway, Puma Glow Rider bicycle, Abio chainless fold-away bicycle, Gary Fisher Simple City Trek Bicycle, Villency Pure Design Glacier leather sofa, NYHRC membership paired with MBT shoes, H. Gillerman Organics basket paired with Sangiovese organic wine from Organic Vintages, a TUMI Townhouse Nottingham Carry-On and more. The bicycles certainly were a hit, but the MBTs got their share of attention as Olympic medal winning athlete Sharon Seagrave challenged guests to a walk/run contest in the good looking but good for your body shoes.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the Fender Bass guitar, autographed by STING, live auctioned off by Susan Shin and Matthew Modine, ala tag team to get the highest bid on this priceless item. The guitar was won by Simon van Kempen after he beat his own wife Alex McCord, as the highest bidder. When asked about the marital bidding war, the couple laughed and said, its just an excuse to give more to Bicycle for a Day %u2013 so why not %u2013 there are worse things to be fighting over?!). In yet another bidding frenzy, Countess Luann de Lesseps bid on the orange Puma bike only to be trumped by Blaine Trumps bid. Meanwhile, in a tour de force of two-wheeled %uFFFDlan, guests took turns driving the Segway, with Richard Johnson in the lead as he wheeled around the stunning showroom. In addition, guests lined up to purchase BFAD $25 dog tags to wear as a sign of solidarity and support for BFAD and its initiatives. The tags, which are the entrance ticket to the September 20th event, also are available online through BFAD%u2019s website, www.bicycleforaday.org. Also a hit were the 100% organic cotton SIC (Smart is Cool) Movement t-shirts, hot off the press. Proceeds from the evening%u2019s auction and sale of the dog tags benefit BFAD and its beneficiaries such as American Forests Global Releaf and the Waterkeeper Alliance.
