On Wednesday, September 23, 2009, Andy and Kate Spade hosted the opening party for Darcy Miller’s show “FAMILY” at Andy Spade’s gallery. The show featured Miller’s whimsical illustrations, personal diaries, scrapbooks, children's drawings and other uniquely personal pieces documenting the experiences that shape her memories of family. In honor of the culmination of Fashion Week, the show included a special exhibit, “Fashion’s Families,” portraits of famous families in the fashion world, such as those of Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Suzy Menkes, Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan, Cynthia Rowley, Martha and Alexis Stewart, and Ralph Lauren, among others. At the opening party, guests also had the chance to preserve their own family memory with a custom work of art. Created exclusively at the event, these special pieces featured a family photograph by celebrity photographer Donna Newman and a sketch by Miller, adorned with Bernard Maisner’s custom calligraphy. A portion of the proceeds benefitted Mount Sinai’s Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. Cocktails were provided by Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur and Stolichnaya.
