New York, New York (Thursday October 30th, 2008) – Harry Slatkin, founder and president of Slatkin & Co. and president of Home Design at Limited Brands, hosted an intimate cocktail party with his wife, Laura, to toast Town & Country’s Pamela Fiori’s and Janet Carlson for the release of their new books at his Upper East Side townhouse on Thursday, October 30th.
Harry Slatkin addressed guests including Tory Burch, Alina Cho, Janna Bullock, Cynthia and Dan Lufkin, Lisa Jackson, Tony Ingrao, Randy Kemper, Anne Hearst and Jay McInerney Alex Papachristidis, Marjorie Gubelmann, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, Teri Agins, Naeem and Ranjana Khan, Anna Reyes, Claudia Mata, Jamee and Peter Gregory, Bill Rudin, Carl Portale, George Farias and Kerry Diamond with a heartfelt toast to the two authors and longtime friends.
Fiori’s book, Stolen Moments: The Photographs of Ronny Jaques is a collection of photographs taken by one of the most influential magazine photographers of his generation. A dear friend of Fiori’s, Jaques shot for such magazines as Town & Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Holiday and Gourmet. While his work may be instantly recognizable, there is little known about the legend behind the lens. In her book, Fiori explores his life and contextualizes his work with that of his peers.
In Quick, Before the Music Stops: How Ballroom Dancing Saved My Life, Carlson tells the story of how she danced her way back into happiness. In her twenties, she was a successful competitive ballroom dancer but abandoned dancing to raise a family and pursue a career as an editor. Twenty years later, she seemed to have it all. She was going through the motions, but felt increasingly empty inside. After her husband gave her ballroom dancing lessons as a gift on Valentine’s Day, Carlson returned to the dance studio and discovers how vital dance had been to her happiness, self-confidence and peace of mind, ultimately restoring a sense of balance and grace that had been missing from her life for so long.
