The 2nd annual IREO Renewable Energy Awards Gala will take place the evening of June 11, 2009 following the IREO renewable Energy Conference at the UN Headquarters in New York City, NY. The IREO (Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization) founded this annual event as a way to honor those individuals and organizations who choose to lead the way of global advancement in alternative energy solutions. The Renewable Energy Award is an opportunity to recognize those individuals and organizations that challenge conventional wisdom and encourage critical thinking to create positive reform. IREO is a proponent of clean and efficient energy sources combined with sustainable development and social awareness. The organization started as a partnership initiative launched in response to the Rio Declaration on Environmental and Development, the Kyoto Protocol, the Johannesburg Declaration and the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in New York.
