On Monday, Gawker Media announced that it was buying CityFile, a relatively small Manhattan site known for its database of bios of A-listers. But the plot thickened a bit when it was revealed that Gabriel Snyder, the editor of Gawker, would be replaced by Remy Stern, the editor and publisher of CityFile.Its a bit hard to fathom, because in the two years Mr. Snyder was at Gawker, he helped double the traffic, ramped up an effort at original reporting and was generally well thought of by the people who worked for him.
