Entering the Seventh Regiment Armory where they were having a carnival evening. 6:45 PM. October 8, 2010. Nice, mild sunny day in New York. Yesterday in New York turned out to be a day about leadership and heritage in the city. At noontime I went to the Memorial Service for Judy Peabody who died at 80 last July 25th. She was born into a time and a world that deemed women of late age grande dames and dowagers. She herself, albeit a woman of the later 20th century, had all the cultural attributes of those who came before her, except for a profound empathic sensibility for those of us in life whose suffering is exacerbated by forced isolation.
