Updated, 6:11 p.m. | The winning design for a proposed AIDS memorial park opposite the former St. Vincents Hospital in Greenwich Village was announced on Monday after a worldwide design competition.The selection, called Infinite Forest, by the design firm Studio a+i in Brooklyn, integrates a grove of white birch trees with strategically placed mirrored walls on the 17,000-square-foot triangular plaza. The contest, which challenged designers to combine the tranquillity of a neighborhood park with a memorial component acknowledging the impact of the epidemic that has claimed the lives of more than 100,000 New Yorkers, drew 475 entries from 26 states and 32 countries.
