Pro Mujer is an international microfinance network dedicated to providing small loans to Latin America's poorest women. Pro Mujer's loans--averaging less than $200--provide women with the opportunity to start small businesses, enabling them to support themselves and their families for the first time. Pro Mujer has been featured on CNN and in the New Yorker for its revolutionary technique of providing poor women not just with loans, but also with the business training, savings programs and the healthcare support they need to succeed. Started in 1990, this system currently serves 173,000 people in five Latin American countries--and the repayment rate on their loans is an astonishing 99%!
