Chocheng Atelier

Cho Cheng inherited his love of fashion from his grandmother, Betty Char-Nuis Yan, the acclaimed couturier who founded the famed Betty Couture at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong in 1960. An alumnus of New York City’s Parsons School of Design, Cho Cheng’s talent was recognized when awarded the Golden Thimble Award in acknowledgement of his graduate collection. Cho Cheng founded his eponymous fashion house, CHOCHENG in 2007, in dedication to his grandmother’s vision and her hallmark superb tailoring, but with a fresh, modern sensibility that encompasses both couture and ready-to-wear collections. Pairing the essence of modern dressing with the allure of old-world couture, CHOCHENG designs are for the woman who embraces timeless and effortless elegance, appealing to everyone from the ingénue to her mother. Cho Cheng provides a skillful hand in creating apparel that is not only singular but flattering and wearable. Utilizing his background in couture to create easily wearable ready-to-wear collections, Cho Cheng incorporates a youthful flair into his designs resulting in an effortless transition from day to evening wear. His designs which incorporate exquisite detailing, luxurious fabrics and impeccable fit, have become a signature of the CHOCHENG aesthetic. In March 2008, Cho Cheng was named one of China’s leading fashion designers – recognition shared with fellow native sons Derek Lam, Peter Som and Phillip Lim. Only 23 years old but already an acclaimed designer, Cho Cheng has an elite following, from celebrities to socialites to prominent businesswomen. He also has been heralded as master of red carpet glamour, dressing notable actresses as well as an international social set -- some of Cho Cheng’s fashion followers have been Goldie Hawn, Nicole Kidman, Marcia Gay Harden, Bebe Neuwirth, Phyllis Newman, Nancy Regan, Maggie Rizer, and Tinsley Mortimer, to name a few. Cho Cheng debuted his ready-to-wear CHOCHENG Fall/Winter 2009 collection at Bryant Park during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February 2009. With the opening of the Atelier in June 2009, Cho Cheng can now provide his distinctive signature designs to customers who appreciate personal attention and shopping in an intimate setting. This address will also serve as a showroom providing retailers a seasonal collection that can be carried by select specialty stores.
