James Campbell made his name in the fashion industry rising through the ranks at Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons, where he started as a marketing assistant and after a six-year tenure, left as Senior Director of Marketing and Advertising. Working under the Phat Fashions umbrella, James was responsible for building an image for globally recognized brands such as KLS Cosmetics, Phat Farm, Simmons Jewelry Company, and the mega-brand Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons.
As head of marketing and advertising departments for this aspirational, lifestyle apparel and consumer product label, James concentrated his energy toward building a strong creative direction and persona behind the brand. Collaborating with world-renowned photographers such as David LaChapelle, Mario Sorrenti, Carter Smith, Camilla Akrins, Glen Luchford, Brett Ratner, and Stuart Shinning, James developed impactful and influential print and television ad campaigns. He has produced celebrity-filled fashion shows that are now fixtures at New York Fashion Week and has become a household darling from his supporting role on the internationally syndicated hit television show, Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, airing in the U.S. on the E! and Style Networks. Working with denim, outerwear, handbags, shoes, lingerie, jewelry, menswear, signature fragrances, and limited edition Motorola phones, James created synergy and a red-hot presence for all Phat Fashion brands helping them grow into the unified urban luxury powerhouse Phat Fashions represents in the global marketplace today.
A Miami native, James first moved to New York to study Communications Design at Pratt Institute for Art and Design. While in school, he landed an apprenticeship with Stephen Gan, the Creative Director of Harper’s Bazaar. It was here, during the much-anticipated relaunch of this venerable fashion publication that James learned the fundamentals of building a brand template.
Currently working as a freelance consultant in New York City, James has poured his ideas into building a name for such brands as John Allan’s salon for men, VNY Model Management, and Milk & Honey Lingerie Co.
