Michael Rothschild is a writer, sculptor, printmaker and farmer. He was born in Maine and has lived there all of his life. He’s the author of two short story collections: Rhapsody of a Hermit and Wondermonger, both of which have been published by Viking/Penguin. His fiction has also appeared in several Best American Short Stories collections. Michael has also received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship.
For most of the last twenty years, Michael has made sculpture in wood, stone, bone and lead as well as numerous etchings, aquatints and linocuts that he prints on a large press in the farmhouse. Selections of his sculpture, etchings, linocuts, and drawings appear in Jubilate, Works by Michael Rothschild.
His work has been shown in the People’s Republic of China, where he has lectured on fiction and art in Beijing, Xi’An and Nanjing.
Michael lives and works on his 200-acre farm where he and his family raise Suffolk sheep, angus beef, hogs, chickens, Muscovy ducks, turkeys and a jersey milk cow.
