When Abe Gurko packed his bags and moved from New York City to Hollywood, he wasn't leaving a career in the fashion industry to chase the usual dream of becoming a movie star. "I wanted to be a mechanic to the machine called celebrity,” says Abe. “I wanted to know how it worked." Over the next few years, Abe developed his skills as a behind-the-scenes creative force, by working on a daily variety-talk show and running the production company for arguably the coolest woman in Hollywood. Along the way he acquired an intimate knowledge of the entertainment industry and chose to bring his star sensibility back to New York City.
Abe has been producing high–profile events under his own moniker for over a decade. He has produced film premieres, races in Central Park, fashion shows, product launches and spearheaded alternative design industry events that have led to the establishment of New York Design Week. In addition, he has formed enduring relationships with key media outlets and today serves as a savvy and invaluable public relations resource for his clients, who range from fashion designers and independent artists to restaurateurs, conservationists and major corporations. His fundraising activities have helped raise millions of dollars for AIDS and cancer-related charities as well as theatrical productions in both New York and Los Angeles.
Abe lives in the Chelsea Gallery District with Woodstock, his chocolate Chihuahua.
