While working toward her BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts, Melanie was chosen to participate in the prestigious Mentor Program, a yearlong mentorship along side Artist/Publisher Devon Dikeou. Melanie was hired after graduating in 2001 to work with her Mentor at Zingmagazine, where she advanced to become Managing Editor. During her four years at Zing, she curated & published several artists’ projects, most notably, photographs by Todd Hido, followed by a selection of texts by artist Jenny Holzer.

Melanie went on to become the Photo Editor of The New York Observer, where she worked for three years before deciding to concentrate on her own creative endeavors. In June of 2008, she founded Melanie Flood Projects, an artists’ salon devoted to exhibiting emerging talent, located in her Brooklyn residence.
