With our proposed project, The Balancing Act: A Hometown Review, we are poised to bring Propel-her’s choreography to as many as 600 new audience members and to engage young women directly by teaching them our cooperative, creative process and exposing them to our model of achieving shared goals through collaboration rather than competition.

The potential impact of our project is unbounded. First, it provides a platform for presenting our new choreography on unfamiliar stages for new audiences. This alone means that the fruits of our labor will culminate in something more than just a single, isolated, theater-going event. Beyond this, The Balancing Act: A Hometown Review, is an opportunity for Propel-her to engage with our hometown communities. It is of particular relevance to us that through our project’s outreach component we will give young women a personalized and participatory experience of dance. We believe that if we can integrate this positive, intimate experience into these girls’ personal definitions of our dance, we will help recruit them, at the very least, as future members of a new generation of American dance viewers of which our country is so desperately in need.
