Fashion Scoops: Training in Vain... Earlly to Bed... Hunting For Angel...
Published: Tuesday, February 13, 2007
TRAIN IN VAIN: Christian Lacroix, having already given France's high-speed trains an eye-popping and futuristic interior, is extending his makeover to staff uniforms. At a March 9 event in Paris, French railway operator SNCF is slated to unveil new duds for its onboard crews. The couturier, who has also outfitted Air France employees, said he had to solve many design problems, creating elegant uniforms that are noticeable, convey authority — and are capable of carrying such hardware as keys, punches and credit card machines. Given his theatrical bent, Lacroix envisioned actors playing on his train set, dressing them in gray uniforms with subtle color accents and linings in "deep purples and lime green, coordinating with the seats, of course!" he joked.

EARLY TO BED: Lulu Guinness jetted straight from New York Fashion Week to the festivities surrounding the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards in London. But she had her limits: She wasn't remotely planning to attend the awards themselves. "Oh no. You have to dress up, and it's a Sunday! I'm far too lazy," she said.

Guinness was among the guests Saturday night for the Sky Movies pre-BAFTA party at the Natural History Museum, which also drew Penélope Cruz, Pedro Almodóvar, Natascha McElhone, James Purefoy, Ozwald Boateng, Emily Oppenheimer and Rob Brydon. Brydon was particularly impressed with the venue. "It's got everything! Even a dinosaur!" he said, referring to the giant skeleton that was lit with purple and pink lasers for the evening.

HUNTING FOR ANGEL: Angel Sanchez designed his fall 2007 collection with an event in mind that will take place much sooner. Sanchez will be sponsoring the Frick's annual Young Fellows Ball, the theme "Hunt Ball," this year, on March 1. Benefit chairs and Frick committee members including Marina Rust Connor, Tinsley Mortimer and Lydia Fenet will wear his fall looks, which — in their brown and forest green palette plus their leather accents — took their inspiration from a George Stubbs painting that will be on exhibit at the museum.
